There have been outbreaks of violence and clashes following the announcement on 6 December 2017 of the United States of America’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel, including at the Israel-Gaza border. The security situation along the northern border of Israel is volatile with incidents of armed conflict reported. Singaporeans are advised to avoid all travel to Gaza. Non-essential travel to the West Bank, including Bethlehem, Jericho and Ramallah, and Israel’s borders with the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and Syria, should be avoided. Singaporeans should exercise a high degree of caution in Jerusalem, especially in the Old City and East Jerusalem.
