Hear From Our Officers

Philip Paul Peters, 1st Secretary (Admin & Consular), Singapore High Commission in London

It was natural for me to join MFA after completing a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Although I decided to serve in the private sector before joining MFA, it helped me to develop a different appreciation of what it means to serve the country. After all these years in MFA, it is the conviction and belief that the work I do is for a greater good that keeps me going.

Representing the Nation and Making a Difference

As an Administrative Secretary at the Singapore High Commission in London, I support the administrative functions with my team, as well as service the consular needs of Singaporeans. To do both efficiently, understanding and adapting to the local culture is key.

I once assisted a fellow Singaporean during a strike in Spain. A few days later, our Minister received an email expressing appreciation for the consular assistance. It was indeed heartwarming to realise that such a small gesture had made a difference in someone’s life.

Taking on the Unpredictable

MFA’s vision is to safeguard and advance Singapore’s interests in a global environment which is inherently unpredictable. This is what makes this job unique. I could be having lunch with the Queen one day and then cleaning the mess from a broken pipe at the Embassy the next day.  My previous posting was in Pretoria, South Africa. I love the varied experiences in one vocation. Most of all, I am serving my country every day.
